Kebutuhan akan energi listrik untuk mensuplai peralatan elektronik semakin meningkat. Banyakpemadaman listrik yang dilakukan pada daerah-daerah secara bergiliran karena kapasitas beban sudah
melebihi kapasitas yang telah ditentukan. Energi listrik yang disalurkan oleh PLN kepada konsumen
tidak selamanya berjalan baik, sewaktu”“waktu energi listrik tersebut dapat padam. Maka perlu
diupayakan adanya sumber energi listrik alternatif. Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) dimanfaatkan
sebagai peralatan elektronik yang dapat bekerja dalam kondisi sumber energi listrik PLN padam. Dalam
UPS digunakan peralatan penyearah yangberupa bridge rectifier bertujuan untuk menyearahkan
tegangan ACmenjadi tegangan DC yang digunakan untuk pengisian batere (aki). Untuk mendapatkan
tegangan listrik sebesar 220 Volt dari batere 12Volt diperlukan rangkaian inverter.
