According to Indonesian Geological Agency Karanggede ”“ Juwangi Road, Boyolali Regency stands on expansive clay soil. This expansive clay causes road damage, like crocodile skin cracks, longitudinal cracks, and potholes. One of the alternative improvements used is to provide environmentally friendly reinforcement in the form of biopolymers. In addition to providing soil stability, the application of biopolymers can also increase soil strength. The biopolymers used in this study were XG (Xantahan Gum), GG (Guar Gum), and CHI (Chitosan). XG biopolymer is known to provide an increase in strength of up to 900%, but the content of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) exceeds the safe limit of water quality standards for sanitation. Meanwhile, the GG and CHI biopolymers still provide a strength increase of 200% to 400% while maintaining the environmental carrying capacity (groundwater).Downloads
