Helping Verbs: Interferensi yang Menyebabkan Kesalahan dalam Penyusunan Kalimat Pertanyaan Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

One element that exists in English but does not exist in the Indonesian Language is the so called Helping Verbs, whose function is to help make both yes/no questions and WH questions. The absence of such helping verbs in the Indonesia Language has been indicated as a cause of errors when students have to make questions in English. This articles tries to identify the types and samples of errors made by the students when they ask questions in Engish. Since such errors have been found from one year to another and from one group of students to another, it is extremely probale that the errors caused by interference occur again in the next year(s).
