Abstract

The issue raised in this study appeared when there was restlessness over the impact of cinetron industry in Indonesia on child workers. Television was suspected to create artist construction to support their interests alone. This construction created false consciousness among parents of children talented to be media workers, popularity fantasy. This study was carried out on a critical paradigm, in the form of qualitative research with receptive analysis method. The results show that media intensely build young artist construction for their interests. There are three processes in understanding television media construction for child workers, popularity, young artists, and young artists’ parents. The first process is accepting television media construction, which is susceptible of false consciousness about young artist fantasy for popularity. The second process realizes the existence of a new concept, that is the truth, but not strong enough to be negotiated with the dominant concept. The third process is refusing the concept brought by the media. The popularity fantasy is low because they can reach a standard of living without having to fantasize.
