The Four Press Media Theories: Authoritarianism Media Theory, Libertarianism Media Theory, Social Responsibility Media Theory, and Totalitarian Media Theory
Abstract
The four theories of press is an early theory of the press and journalism were first widely publicized in 1956 by Wilburm Schraamm, Fred. S. Siebert and Theodore Peterson. This press theory illustrates that the press describe the socio-political situation in a community. This is because the press reflect the social control system and the relationship between individuals and institutions. The fourth theory is really just a development of the two previous theories, such as an outgrowth of the Totalitarian Authotarian, while the Social Responsibility Theory (SRT) is an outgrowth of the libertarian theory of the press.
